Rachel's Tasmania Trip

Cradle Mountain – Place on the definitive list for every Tasmania trip

It may sound strange but it was the Tasmania trip that took Rachel by surprise. Usually preferring international destinations for her holidays she recently explored what beautiful landscapes, sights and adventures Tasmania has to offer.  Having been inundated with so many fantastic reviews, it was a great pleasure for her to come back with even more praise and recommendations to share about her time on 'the small island'. She returned feeling completely refreshed, relaxed and with some wonderful memories.

Using well located properties and local operators for day tours, this was an independent trip for Rachel which she enjoyed over the Summer in January/February 2015. A Tasmania trip is worth having at this time because it is busier and more crowded as the weather is at its best.  Highlights were certainly the beaches of Bay of Fires, the hiking trails of Cradle Mountain and the seafood and friendly town feel of Strahan.  A hike to Wineglass Bay is certainly worthwhile too along with a day trip to Port Arthur with a bit more time when arriving into Hobart.
"I've never really been a big seafood eater, however you will find it hard not to be tempted to try their salmon, oysters, abalone, prawns and more. You certainly quickly grow a great appreciation for the local produce - who wouldn't when a dozen oysters you can steal for only $9.95!  This is unheard of from anywhere near where I live. Taking this Tasmania trip seemed like the right choice, although I have visited places which names I can’t even pronounce.

Some things to be mindful of, MONA (Museum of Old & New Art in Hobart) is closed on Tuesdays, except in January, when it is open 7 days.  I would also recommend that if you plan on travelling round trip, say Hobart to Hobart, nothing short of 7 days will be justifiable.  In fact something more along the lines of 10+ days is much better.  Plan your days so that you are driving early and reach your destination before dusk.  Trying to drive after this time is a nightmare with the wildlife on the road, unless you want to test out the ABS, it is not worth the worry and stress!
I am hoping that on my next trip I will travel from Beijing (with a bit of Japan before) along the Trans-Siberian Railway to St. Petersburg.  However, I have a feeling that before then my travels will include a touch a snowboarding in Queenstown, along with a self drive itinerary around the South Island of New Zealand!"
